Trial Receipt: Privacy Policy
Trial Receipt by Hall House Labs · Last updated: October 15, 2026
The short version: Trial Receipt keeps everything on your device. We don’t have servers, accounts or analytics, and the extension sends nothing about your trials anywhere. The only network call is an optional one-time license-key check with Gumroad if you buy the unlock. We can’t see your data, because we never receive it.
What Trial Receipt stores
When you save a trial receipt, the extension saves the following in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device:
- The service name, website, start date, trial length and first-charge date.
- The price after the trial, and the billing period.
- The cancel-terms text you selected or that was extracted from the page, and the cancel/manage link.
- Your settings (reminder time, whether the optional page hint is on) and, if you buy it, your license key.
This data stays in your browser profile. It isn’t sent to Hall House Labs or anyone else. If you remove the extension or click “Delete all my trials” in Settings, it is erased.
When the extension reads a web page
- Only when you click the toolbar icon or choose “Save trial receipt for this page” from the right-click menu on a page, the extension reads that one page’s title, address, visible text and relevant links, to pre-fill the form. This uses Chrome’s “activeTab” permission, which gives access to the current tab only, only at that moment.
- Optional page hint (off by default). If you turn it on in Settings and approve Chrome’s site-access prompt, a small script checks each page you open for the words “free trial” or “cancel anytime” and shows a “!” badge on the toolbar icon. The check runs on your device. Only a yes/no flag leaves the page script, and it goes only to the extension’s own background process. You can turn it off at any time, which also removes the site access.
What we don’t do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising or tracking.
- No network requests, except one optional check: if you buy the unlock and click Activate, your license key is sent to Gumroad (api.gumroad.com) to confirm it is valid. Nothing else is ever sent: no trials, no page content, no browsing information. No remote code is loaded.
- No selling, sharing or transferring of user data.
Reminders and notifications
Reminders are created with Chrome’s alarms feature and shown as normal browser notifications, all on your device. Chrome must be running for a reminder to appear; Trial Receipt catches up on a missed one when Chrome next opens.
License keys and payment
The free version keeps up to 2 active trials. A one-time unlock removes that limit. Trial Receipt itself does not collect payments or payment details. Gumroad license keys are checked once with Gumroad when you click Activate (Gumroad’s own privacy policy applies to that request); after that, the result is saved on your device. Keys we issue directly are checked on your device with a digital-signature check. The extension asks for permission to contact api.gumroad.com only at that moment.
CSV export
“Export CSV” creates a file in your browser’s Downloads folder. Anything you do with that file afterwards is up to you.
Children
Trial Receipt is a general-purpose tool and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t collect any personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published with the extension update and the “last updated” date above will change.
